Description: Develop an analytically sound, handheld explosives detector with the capability to detect particulate inorganic homemade explosives threats such as nitrates, chlorates, perchlorates, and permanganates at the trace level, while retaining the ability to detect particulate commercial and military threats.

Operational Impact: The handheld HME trace detector will provide a reliable, low maintenance, simple device providing high accuracy, low level detection with low false positives to distinguish between these inorganic HME threats and harmless compounds.
